Sad white kitty

The past few weeks have been tough on baby white.  He has a lot of wounds on his body due to a fungal infection so the cone is back to keep him from scratching and licking off the medicine.  It also helps him stay away from the plants and the maxforce roach bait that we have lying around.

What a sad face!

Aside from the fungal cream, we have to bathe him twice a week using medicated soap and shampoo.  He can get really wild and violent during bath time so we made him special cat mittens.  My brother cut up an old rubber glove and used the finger part to cover Kumo's paws.

Just a few more weeks, Kumo! You can do it!

The alien cats are here!

Both kitties have been wearing the dreaded e-collar since last week.  Kumo is still recovering from the ringworm on his back while Nugget has a big infected wound on his leg.  The vest I made for Kumo was pretty effective but we needed something to stop him from grooming Nuggie for now.  Also, both cats seem to love the taste of the ointment since they keep licking it off.  Eew!  I would have loved to get them the soft donut type collars, but sadly those things are way over my budget :(

My alien/lampshade kitties are here :D
hello!
Despite the collar, Kumo is still very playful!  Here he is on the table while watching me work :)

Nugget on the other hand, looks so defeated :(  Poor baby!  Don't worry, I think we will remove the collar by the end of the week.  I think he's also annoyed because the vet prescribed antibiotics for him.  Pills are not a cat's friend!

Kumo gives Nuggie a massage to make him feel better :) Aww!  Click to watch video :P

Thank You!

I'd like to thank all the generous hearts who donated to our latest cat food drive for Beth's 30 cats
Here is a list of the cash donations we received:

1.) K.A. - P500 deposit through BDO
2.) F.B. - P500 deposit through BDO
3.) N & C - P1000 deposit through BDO
4.) K - $10 (converted to P450) Paypal transfer
5.) N.F. - P850 Paypal transfer
6.) L.V. - P1000 deposit through Unionbank
7.) R - P500 given to Grace

*names in initials - you guys know who you are :)  Super thanks!

All in all, we were able to collect a total of P4,800 in cash.  Aside from the cash, we received 4 bags of cat food, cleaning materials and groceries from catslair members Maggie, EJ, Grace and Kate. Yay!!!

This afternoon, Grace and I went to Farmer's Market in Cubao to buy cat food with the money we received.  We wanted to maximize the cash so we opted to buy the cheapest kind.  I'm sure this food will provide more nutrients than the corn chips/chippy that Beth often feeds to the kitties.

We got the Princess brand cat food originally at p95/kilo...
weighed
for a lower price since we bought 2 and a half sacks.  Each sack weighs 23 kilos and was given to us at p1900.  That's just p82/kilo!  Yay :)  We tried to haggle some more but to no avail.  boo!

I wonder how this guy was able to balance 61 kilos of cat food on his head!

We dropped of the stuff over at Beth and Micque's family in Project 2, Q.C.  We couldn't go to Bulacan today so it was good to know that there is a drop off point nearby :)  The family cat, Jacob was there to greet us.

Time for pills

We went to the vet for Nuggie's check up.  The doctor said that Nugget lost 5 pounds from the last time we were there (November 2010).  I guess all that play time with Kumo is effective exercise for Nug :)

I wonder what they have planned for me today.  I hope nothing painful :(
Oh, deworming pills! Yuck! (click to watch)

Kumo's Vest

The past week and a half has been very traumatic for our little Kumo.  He was scratching uncontrollably one night and then two days after a weird bald spot appeared on his back.  A trip to the vet confirmed our suspicions that it was ring worm!  Eeeks.  Kumo loves to play with the sand in the litter box so we're all guessing that he picked up the fungus there.  I also found out that cats under 1 year are highly susceptible because their immune system hasn't fully developed yet.  Aww, poor baby!
Ngaaaw!
The itching has stopped but I am still treating the area with betadine and the prescribed anti fungal cream 2-3 times a day.  The vet also gave us a medicated shampoo to use every 4 days.
i has a vest
Kumo is very active and keeps licking the ointment so I made a tiny vest out of an old sock for him :)  This is his 4th vest this week too.  I know he's supposed to wear that cone shaped collar but I don't want him to be uncomfortable :(
Looks kind of cute on him too :)
Kumo and Nugget
We check Nugget a lot to see if he has any weird patches but so far he's clean.  We're supposed to keep them apart but it's so hard since they like being together most of the time.  Hopefully this thing clears up soon :)

Remember Beth?

I've posted about Beth Olita and her 29 (or more) cats before, but I would like to take this opportunity to remind everyone about her and her amazing act of generosity.
 Beth's 29 cats
This is Beth's house.
Beth's 29 cats
In this tiny house Beth and her partner, Micque care for 29 (or more) unwanted cats.
Beth's 29 cats
and despite having very little financial resources, the cats are well fed, clean and LOVED :)  Unfortunately, the past months have been rough for Beth financially that she can barely afford to feed her cats.  My friend, Grace and I are planning to visit them again this month and would like to ask if anybody would like to donate cat food or cleaning agents such as disinfectant and sponges.  Cash donation is also welcome.  I will be posting a complete report on cash donations with receipts to assure you that everything will be going to Beth's cats :)  For more information on how to donate, you may e-mail me at meowbykate AT gmail . com or leave a note with your e-mail address in the comments section so I can contact you.  Thank you!

Don't eat too fast!

This orange cat threw up most of his lunch because he was eating too fast again!  I saw a special bowl for dogs with this problem but I'm not sure if it would work on cats too.
zzzz
Sleeping without a care in the world!
baby Nuggie <3
Any ideas how to make this orange cat eat slowly? :)  Btw, I uploaded cute sleeping pics because I don't think anyone would like to see vomit photos! LOL

Lazy Sunday with Nuggie

Sometimes I seriously think about how cool it would be to be someone's pampered kitty!  Imagine spending your days just doing nothing but sleep, play and eat!
It would be really cool to be groomed and pampered all the time too :D  Please click on the video to watch Nuggie enjoying his grooming session!  It's the cutest!  I had to add audio to the clip to mask my baby talk. LOL.  Btw, person doing the brushing is my brother and not me :D
cleaning
But then again I do think of other cat duties such as washing yourself in weird areas using your tongue...
hmm, weird taste!
Hmm!  Weird taste! Haha.

Wheatgrass!

I finally got the wheat grass patch I promised Nugget months ago :) Just look at that precious face!
He was so excited that he tried to climb up the table. Super stretch!

Does your cat eat grass?

I'm not sure if a lot of people know this, but cats really eat grass. When I was younger I would notice our cats grazing in the garden. I originally thought that it was because they were hungry or maybe they just liked how it tasted :) Later on I found out that grass is actually indigestible for felines and they just eat it to help them regurgitate stuff such as fur (hairball!). Of course we should make sure that there are no fertilizers and pesticides for it to be safe for our pets.
Our Nugget is obsessed! In fact, I don't think I've ever encountered a cat who loves grass more than he does! And this is just the normal stuff, okay... and not "grass" or catnip :)
Look at that face! So funny!
We don't have a garden in our unit so he has to make do with the wild grass growing beside the potted plants (all cat safe). I should really get him a wheat grass patch soon :)
Is that what I think it is?
I was holding a few blades of grass while adjusting my the focus on my camera when...
ROAR!

Why so serious, Nugnug?

I don't know if other cats do this but every time Nugget eats he has his eyes closed. It's the cutest thing! It's like he's concentrating on the food - analyzing and savoring each bite.
Whether he's seated...
standing...
with butt up in the air...
his eyes are always closed when it's eating time!
But when he's drinking, his eyes are always open. Like he's afraid he's going to drown or something.
Fascinating!

Bathtime with Nuggie

Ortigas is a very dusty place to live in. In just 2 or 3 days our balcony gets covered in black soot! Yes, pollution is really bad but we love this place :)
We try to keep Nugget away from the dust but all our efforts are futile. He really enjoys sleeping and rolling on the dirt! He even knocked over a pot once and played with the soil!
Everything sticks to him since his fur is naturally shiny and oily! Just look at those muddy paws on the couch. We usually bring him to the groomers (once in 3 months) but we decided that this time we will bathe him ourselves :) It's been almost a year since we last bathed him here so we were all pretty excited.
Nugget was struggling when I carried him to the bathroom. I know that he knew what was about to happen. I had to hold him down during the first few minutes but then he relaxed and just waited for the bath to be over. But he did look angry the whole time. Btw, please make sure that you check the ingredients of your pet shampoo. I read that some still have chemicals that cause toxic build-up in the fur :(
It's funny how he retained his shape even when wet. I mean, some cats and even dogs look really thin when wet but not Nuggie!
Click on Video to watch him :) He kept meowing the whole time!
And we're done! He finally looks happy again :)
Lots of shaking and licking after
more licking!
Before and after paw pics! Nug is now silky smooth and clean :)  I really love it when Nuggie is fresh and clean.  Not sure if he is fond of these baths though!  Wish he would be like my friend's cat who loves being bathed.  Maybe Nuggie will be happier if we get a new bathroom with all the fancy fixtures at http://www.qualitybath.com/ :D  Haha!

Dirty Nugget!

Nugget (like all cats) loves to sunbathe. When the sun is out, he spends a couple of hours a day sunning himself on our balcony. I think it's kind of cute that his fur gets really warm after. I wonder if cats get sunburned underneath the fur...
Lately though I've noticed that he looks darker than usual. His under part is grayish and his paws are black at times! We couldn't figure out why at first but then we discovered that he has been overturning a few plant pots.
Aside from damaging pots here he is hugging the trash bag...
and rolling on the dirt!
But it's so hard to get mad at him. I mean, look at that cute face :)
I really need to bathe him one of these days!
