The pies have eyes

Saw this cute whoopie pie staring at me in Starbucks.  If you look closer you'll see another pie peeking at the back :D  So adorable!  Happy weekend folks!

KaEskwela Fans Club 2

It's been really hot lately!  Yes, I know I just talked about the heat in my previous post :D  Anyway, let's help the kids in school stay cool by helping provide electric fans for their classrooms.
KaEskwela is really honored to be School of Satchel's beneficiary for their Fans club project.
Just buy a beautiful leather luggage tag to help out.  Each tag can be personalized with your initials too!  Btw, shipping is free even for international orders (Indonesia, Greece, United Kingdom, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Taiwan, Singapore, Italy, Norway, USA, Thailand, Canada, France).
"100% of the proceeds from this personalized luggage tag will go to the KaEskwela Fans Club which pledges to equip an entire public school outside of Metro Manila with ceiling fans. Yes, there are public schools that do not have any electric fans in their classrooms."

Just visit School of Satchel for more details.  Happy Shopping! :)

It's too hot

Everyone is complaining about the heat lately.  I guess it's difficult to ignore especially when the temperature has been hitting the mid 30s range almost everyday.  Yesterday the recorded temp was 36.2 degrees Celsius!  Eek!  I'm so sure that if I crack an egg on the sidewalk it will get cooked in just a few minutes :D
Kumo has a funny way of keeping cool.  He keeps most of his body covered with only his head and paws exposed to the sun :D
Nugget on the other hand just likes to stay close to the floor.  I just love how my golden Nugget sleeps!  He's lost a few pounds but I'm pretty sure he is as heavy as 5 or maybe 10 gold bars :D  Whee!  Happy Wednesday folks!  Stay cool :)

Goodbye Facebook?

Snapped this photo while Erman and I were stuck in traffic.
I deactivated my Facebook account a couple of days ago.  Not sure how long I will be "gone"...  Right now I am having a few issues with privacy.  Also not comfortable with meanies adding me (I know we are all adults now but LOL, what's up with that?) and negatrons - folks with so much negativity in them.  However, I will miss seeing photos of my friends' cats the most!  That and joining contests  :)

Funny Wednesday

And he is at it again!
Nugget's butt must have a very soothing smell...
because Kumo loves sleeping near it :D
Zzz...

Things that make me happy

Watching Kumo give Nugget a massage :D
Yummy treats from Bacolod.  Thanks Isa :)
Spotting interesting drawings on a wall
homemade chicken nuggets
and finally receiving our Wedding book!  It traveled all the way from Malaysia.  Btw, our wedding was also featured on Bridal Book the other day :D  I can't believe that we'll be celebrating our first anniversary next month.  Time is so fast!

Stray kitties

Do you see her?
This beautiful calico kitty is one of the stray cats that live near our building.  She's already been neutered - there was a TNR (Trap-Neuter-Release) program in our area the other year and this kitty was lucky to be a part of it.  She's really sweet and is quite healthy since she hangs out near the canteens.  I just hope that someday someone will adopt her.
In the meantime, we try to feed and check on her as often as possible.  We made sure to feed her during the Holy Week since all canteens were closed.
Happily nomming :D
The basement parking cat is a little different.  He's a bit of a recluse but I think he's becoming more sociable lately.  I think he knows that it's feeding time when I make meow sounds :)

Circles

I found this book I made several years ago while clearing my cabinet.
I'm not really sure why I made it.  I guess it's one of those random meow things :)
It's really tiny - measuring at 1 x 1.5 inches.  Can you guess what I put inside?
Circles!  Yes, that is why the book's title is "Circles" :D  I remember that this was the time when I was very happy with my newly acquired circle puncher.
a basketball
A circle with circles inside!  It's 13 pages of assorted circles.  Yes I know the whole thing is a bit silly :D  But finding this book made my day!  I am now recalling all the funny things I used to make.
Maybe I should make another one but this time with squares! :D  Happy Sunday, folks!

Sunset at Phnom Bakheng

I woke up refreshed from my nap.  I would have loved to just stay in bed but the excitement of finally seeing a temple was too much that I was ready in just a few minutes... that and a cup of strong coffee :D    Our tuktuk driver, Narim was right on time and was waiting for us downstairs.
We stopped by the ticket area first to purchase our temple pass.  We got there at around 4:10 pm but were advised to buy our ticket at 5:00 pm since entry to the complex is free past 5.  I did not understand at first but they explained that if you will buy a 3 day pass at 5pm, you will technically get 4 days since they won't stamp your ticket for the day.  Pretty cool, huh?  Some tourists were a bit annoyed though because they wanted to go inside at once.
Entrance
Phnom Bakheng was built at the end of the 9th century and has become the to go spot in the Angkor complex during sunset because of its location.  The temples are situated on top of a hill promising its visitors a spectacular view of the sunset and the other temples surrounding it.
There is a 20-30 minute trek to get to the top.  The time of course depends on your speed :)  This was a bit challenging for us out of shape fatties (note to self: must get back in shape soon!) but we managed and thankfully just in time to witness the sunset.
Beautiful!
Lots of rocks that were once a part of the temple
Expectation: a serene experience at Phnom Bakheng
My expectations were shattered when I saw this...
Reality...  It's a party!
There were a LOT of people waiting for the sunset.  It was noisy, crowded and hot!  The tip in a situation like this is to be patient.  Don't worry, you'll find your own spot :D  Also try to remain cool and considerate.
Cool silhouette photo by Erman
And it is not so bad since it's quite interesting to take a photo of the crowd :D  Just look at those silhouettes!  And finally...  This is what we've been waiting for - the sunset!
Beautiful sunset at Phnom Bakheng
We decided to wait at the temple for a bit after the sunset.  I have no idea why everyone was in a rush to get down, but it was good since we were given the chance to take better temple shots sans the crowd :)

Hello, Siem Reap!

I've been planning a trip to Cambodia (and India, Nepal, Maldives, EASTER ISLAND...and the list goes on. LOL) for the longest time.  I've always wanted to see the temples in Siem Reap - especially Ta Phrom where the movie Tomb Raider was filmed.  After reading countless posts on travel blogs and sites on educational trips to Siem Reap, we decided that we should finally make those travel plans a reality this year.
sleeping at the airport
Usually people do an Asian tour (Vietnam-Cambodia-Thailand) but we decided to just concentrate on Siem Reap for now.  I also wanted a really relaxed  trip.  Our adventure started in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia (the airport to be exact) where we waited 12 hours for our flight.  There were no direct flights yet at the time of our trip but I just heard that Cebu Pacific now offers this route.  Erman was able to sleep on the benches but sadly it was not the same case for meow.  It was a bit uncomfortable for me so I kept my self amused by reading e-mail, browsing the internet and going around taking photos.
Yes, we are in Kuala Lumpur :D
And we are finally in Siem Reap!  We hired a tuktuk (driver was recommended by a friend) for the day ($15).  Our driver picked us up from the airport and drove us to Pub Street for lunch.

I was looking for a Khmer restaurant but the two shops that I spotted were both closed so we just decided to have lunch at a Vietnamese restaurant called Soup dragon.  I was so sleepy but suddenly felt awake when I heard a faint "meow".  I looked under our table and guess what!?  There was a kitty!
Welcome to Cambodia, meow!

After a nice leisurely lunch we asked Narim (our driver) to drop us off at the hotel.  I looked at several hotels online and picked Tara Angkor since they had a lot of good reviews in terms of price, service and location.
Our home for the next 5 days
And I was very happy with my decision since the hotel was really nice!  We were given lemongrass tea and cold towels while we were waiting for our turn to check in.

I fell asleep as soon as my head hit the bed :D   Thankfully I was able to wake up before Narim arrived to drive us to Phnom Bakheng Temple to watch the sunset.  More on that on my next post :)

Kayni's Handmade Paper Goodies Giveaway!

My online buddy, Kayni is hosting a handmade paper giveaway at her blog right now.  I love crafting, making collages and decorated paper!
If I get picked I would really like to have this set!  Isn't it cute :)  It would be perfect as gift tags!  You can check out Kayni's etsy shop to see some of her adorable paper creations and jewelry.
I want this too!
She has the cutest things for sale!  Also love the photos of the products.  Now I feel really inspired to put items in the etsy account I set up a couple of years ago (LOL.  It's still empty until now!).  Not sure what I will sell though.  Maybe I can make something out of Nuggie's fur?  Hehe.

It was Pawsome!

Remember the rescue story contest I posted before?  Well, we were one of the winners!  Yay :D  We won 2 boxes of Fancy Feast and an invite to the most Pawsome event ever!
It's Qish's 5th Birfday Pawty!
there were balloons!
Qish's momma, Jonna threw the most amazing party ever last Sunday, April 1.  It was definitely a wonderful way to start the month.
We were welcomed by Qish's sister, Rue.  Jamila and I almost died from cuteness overload!  Rue is such a sweetheart and has the softest orange fur.  That got me thinking about Nugget's fur and I  wondered why the texture is so different from other kitties.  It's always been on the stiff side even after a bath - like a wild animal's. LOL.
The birthday boy was a bit shy that day :)
This is Hamish, the cutest party guest :D
There were lots of treats for the kitties (all made by wholepetkitchen)
and human treats too :D
Our message to the birthday boy
It was a nice gathering of cat folks.  I really wish my cats are more behaved so I can take them to these events.  I also need a carrier with wheels for Nug :P
Happy Birthday, Qish!  May you have many more wonderful memories with Rue and Momma Jonna!
Thank you too for our prize and the goodies <3
