Gael is 7!

My godchild celebrated his 7th birthday last Saturday. Wow, 7 years! I can still remember the time when we were all waiting at the hospital for his birth.

The Manila Hotel

IMG_8062
The Manila Hotel is so 90's for me. I don't mean that in a bad way though. What I am trying to say is that all my experiences with the Manila Hotel happened in the 90's - my cousin's wedding reception, the time I treated my high school buddy for merienda (where right after I had my first cab ride alone in which I was scammed without me knowing it) and lastly, my HS classmate's debut. There were no more opportunities for me to go back until last night when I accompanied Erman to his uncle's birthday and thanksgiving dinner.

The place looks exactly the same as how I remembered it. Although I wonder how the hotel looked back in 1912 when it was first opened.

While waiting for the festivities to begin we went around and checked out the Champagne room. I would like to try the Italian and French cuisine here sometime. Ala carte lunch is served from 12:00- 2:30 pm and dinner at 7:00 to 10:30 pm.

Our dinner menu. The food was just okay but what really stood out that evening were the waiters. They were so attentive that it was almost stalker-ish (is that the term? haha). Every time we would get out of the table they would rearrange the silverware and refold our napkins. Water glasses kept getting refilled and when I had coffee someone picked up the empty sugar sachet as soon as I placed it on the table. We almost expected them to give us shoulder massage after the meal :)

The dessert table was very interesting!

I tried the ube roll with mango sauce

and the Christmas looking bread pudding with cream sauce

The highlight of the night was when we spotted a very familiar person in the crowd. Look closely at the tall woman wearing the blue dress!

It starts here

It was a long drive but when we got down from the car we knew that we finally found the venue for our wedding. Erman reset the odometer at my house to see how far we had to travel to get there.
80.7 km!
Wow! Approximately 80.7 kilometers from Ortigas. I really hope that our guests wouldn't mind the distance that much :)
wooden door
The house has a beautiful wooden door
golden pumpkins
and a lovely varnished table with golden pumpkins as a centerpiece.
cool vintage stuff
I particularly liked this collection of vintage items.
trunks
I remember that we had 2 of these trunks in our old home before.
shade
The garden is huge and there are a lot of areas for people to explore. The place is wonderful but it would have been perfect if they had a cat! Haha! I was really hoping to see a cat that day.
chairs
Beautiful chairs on a blue floor! I'm really looking forward to our party next year :)

The Killer

This sweet and innocent cat just killed a bird yesterday! tub of lard
I really did not expect that this tub of lard still had it in him!  Watch this short clip and you'll know what I'm talking about.

I mean he's so fat and wobbles around the whole day.  Who would have thought that he could still hunt? But I guess I was wrong because that night he surprised me with a dead bird.
gift for you
Surpise!
i killed it
Yes, I killed it.
dead bird :(
poor thing :(  May he rest in peace.

Happy birthday, Jamila!

My little sister and I are 16 years apart.  We didn't really expect our mom to spawn again after my brother but Jamila was a pleasant surprise :)
Here she is in 2002 with another baby beside her!
And now, all grown up!

Here we go!

I had my first test makeup (for my wedding) today.  To be honest, I am not really fond of make up.  I am really more of a natural look kind of girl.  But of course I am admitting that I need it on the big day... Unless I want to end up looking like a haggard banshee/owl that is.
 Tools of the trade
So much make up!  Teresa, the make up artist (who is also the woman behind Ellana Mineral Makeup) did a great job.  I ended up looking natural and not "cakey" at all.  No before and after photos though.  I have no plans of scaring you guys with images of my Fez. :D

We attended my high school friend's wedding in Magallanes Church right after.  Haha, I made sure that the make up test didn't go to waste by scheduling it on the same day as the event :)
It was such a lovely wedding!  Very simple, elegant and heartfelt.
The celebration continued at the Peninsula where we had a very yummy 5 course dinner!
and the best dessert ever!  Congratulations Miko and Mishi!  I wish you the best :)
