i miss you.

dear nugget,

I almost cried while I was on the train last night. I was on my way home and decided to go though my phone cam pics to pass the time. Most of the images on my album are pictures of you and I suddenly realized how much I missed you :(

Some of my friends (the non cat people) think I'm a bit weird for missing you so much but I can't help it. I miss hearing your loud wake up meows. I miss blocking you from the door as you try to follow me inside the bathroom every morning. I miss watching you play and run around the house when you get the "crazies". I think I can go on the whole day listing all the little things that I miss.

Anyway, I hope you are doing fine and getting along well with Kirby. Don't eat too much, okay?

love, kate

Singapore Kite Festival 2009

The Singapore Kite Festival (or Kite Day) was held here in Punggol last Feb 14 and 15 - same weekend as the Philippine Hot Air Balloon Festival! To be honest, I was not even aware that there was an event in the first place - I only found out when I saw a giant Matryoshka doll (which is probably the cutest kite that i have ever seen!) from my window at home. Lucky for me that the event was close to my place :)

There were a lot of amazing kites flown by people from all over the world. international flag kite trainyay, Philippines! :)huge frog all the way from BrazilMatryoshka doll resting.  I was expecting to see some musicians and some music themed balloons though.   roar!

I love curry puff!

I love curry puff :) Actually, it's very similar to our empanadas except for the flavor in the filling and sometimes the texture of the crust. I am still in the search for the best curry puff here in Singapore but I think the one I tried at the Hong Lim Food Center was pretty good. The filling was just right for me- not too spicy. The crust was thick and cripy (but was a little too oily in my opinion)

chili hearts day!

One of the green peppers turned red just in time for valentines day! I don't know if its just me, but this one kind of looks like a heart :) It's a bit funny because among the batch, it was the only one who turned red!happy valentines day!

bicol express experiment

I have never tried Bicol express since the dish has pork in it but since I am a big fan of gata, green sili and bagoong I decided to make my own version using chicken. I checked online and found a very simple recipe but instead of adding just 2 teaspoons of bagoong, I ended up putting a whole lot more!

As for the green siling labuyo since I could not find the usual kind that we have back home (the charteruese colored) I just opted to use the local sili that they had in the grocery. I picked out a few curled ones for pictorial purposes :) the one in the middle looks like a snail!the final product looks more like binagoongan than bicol express :)

alien tomatoes

I found this photo while I was looking through some of my old files today. Actually, I can't recall when and where I bought these alien looking tomatoes... But what I remember is that I got them only because I wanted to take them home for a photo shoot :)
I was still using my trusty Nikon FM2 camera then, so I am guessing that this pic was taken about 8 years ago. Wow. I hope the negatives are still intact somewhere.

Eggs!

I loved the Egg Exhibit at the Jurong Bird Park. I don't think I have ever seen so many different kinds of eggs before. The only egg I can identify in the set is the quail egg (yummy but deadly!)And I also found out that 1 ostrich egg = 24 chicken eggs!Eggciting eh!

hello meow!

I hardly see any stray cats here in Singapore unlike back home. It's either that they have a really good animal control program or something sinister (that i do not want to think of) is happening. I'd like to think that it is the first reason :)

That's why I was really happy to see not one but two meows at the hawker center in Chinatown last week! I wanted to move closer but they looked shy so I just ended up taking a few pics. Btw, I was next in line to a man who was buying 20 cans of Whiskas cat food at the grocery this morning! Hmm... I wonder how many cats he has back home :)
