Thank You!

I'd like to thank all the generous hearts who donated to our latest cat food drive for Beth's 30 cats
Here is a list of the cash donations we received:

1.) K.A. - P500 deposit through BDO
2.) F.B. - P500 deposit through BDO
3.) N & C - P1000 deposit through BDO
4.) K - $10 (converted to P450) Paypal transfer
5.) N.F. - P850 Paypal transfer
6.) L.V. - P1000 deposit through Unionbank
7.) R - P500 given to Grace

*names in initials - you guys know who you are :) Super thanks!

All in all, we were able to collect a total of P4,800 in cash. Aside from the cash, we received 4 bags of cat food, cleaning materials and groceries from catslair members Maggie, EJ, Grace and Kate. Yay!!!

This afternoon, Grace and I went to Farmer's Market in Cubao to buy cat food with the money we received. We wanted to maximize the cash so we opted to buy the cheapest kind. I'm sure this food will provide more nutrients than the corn chips/chippy that Beth often feeds to the kitties.

We got the Princess brand cat food originally at p95/kilo...
weighed
for a lower price since we bought 2 and a half sacks. Each sack weighs 23 kilos and was given to us at p1900. That's just p82/kilo! Yay :) We tried to haggle some more but to no avail. boo!

I wonder how this guy was able to balance 61 kilos of cat food on his head!

We dropped of the stuff over at Beth and Micque's family in Project 2, Q.C. We couldn't go to Bulacan today so it was good to know that there is a drop off point nearby :) The family cat, Jacob was there to greet us.

Mr. Pinlac with the donations that Beth and Micque will pick up tomorrow. Thanks to everyone again :)

Hello, Curacha!

Have you seen a Curacha? I think it's been almost 10 years since I've encountered these crabs! I was in Zamboanga city at that time too so it was quite a shock to see these in the grocery :)

The Curacha (or spanner crab in English) is a strange looking crab.

Quite pricey too at P549/$12.50 a kilo! Too bad I didn't get to take more detailed shots but here are some links to check if you're interested in reading more about this odd (but yummy! hehe) crab.

Time for pills

We went to the vet for Nuggie's check up. The doctor said that Nugget lost 5 pounds from the last time we were there (November 2010). I guess all that play time with Kumo is effective exercise for Nug :)

I wonder what they have planned for me today. I hope nothing painful :(
Oh, deworming pills! Yuck! (click to watch)

The aliens have landed

We've always been curious about the strange pancake/space ship-like structures that we would see every time we'd pass by the MRT Quezon Avenue station along Edsa. These structures are right behind Centris station mall.

Thankfully, we finally had the chance to visit Centris Walk last weekend. Yay! :) Too bad we missed the Sidcor Weekend Market since we arrived past 3pm. The market is held there every Sunday from 6am to 2pm.

They are still doing construction in some areas but there are already a lot of restaurants to choose from. There's Zong (Chinese), Pancake house, Pho Hoa (Vietnamese), Italianni's, My Thai Kitchen, Asya (Filipino-Asian fusion) and Claw Daddy. For dessert there is Coffee bean & Tea leaf, Tutti Frutti Yogurt and Jack's Loft. If you're looking for fast food, there are many options in Centris Mall. Aside from the restaurants there is a play ground, carousel and a train for the kids.

The place becomes even more interesting when they turn on the lights at night!

It's nice to watch the "disks" as the lights change color :)

We'll be back soon! Thank you to Erman for lending me his camera :)

Perfect Meowday

Start the day right with a yummy breakfast!
yummy breakfast
I've just finished the first phase of the South Beach diet (2 weeks of no carbs) so it was a real treat to have toast! The second phase allows carbs - but of course in limited quantities and only whole grains. No white and refined starches but I'm thinking that one weekend treat is okay :D I hope that's not considered cheating. Hehe.
meow
Kumo is helping me get active too. We play for a few minutes each day. I toss him the ball or make him chase after a string. Of course I still try to bike or brisk walk for at least 30-40 minutes a day... and these small steps are working well for me.
sleeping nug
Nugget on the other hand is lazy :D
it's war!!!
But I think he's lost a little weight too thanks to Kumo :D

Kumo's Vest

The past week and a half has been very traumatic for our little Kumo. He was scratching uncontrollably one night and then two days after a weird bald spot appeared on his back. A trip to the vet confirmed our suspicions that it was ring worm! Eeeks. Kumo loves to play with the sand in the litter box so we're all guessing that he picked up the fungus there. I also found out that cats under 1 year are highly susceptible because their immune system hasn't fully developed yet. Aww, poor baby!
Ngaaaw!
The itching has stopped but I am still treating the area with betadine and the prescribed anti fungal cream 2-3 times a day. The vet also gave us a medicated shampoo to use every 4 days.
i has a vest
Kumo is very active and keeps licking the ointment so I made a tiny vest out of an old sock for him :) This is his 4th vest this week too. I know he's supposed to wear that cone shaped collar but I don't want him to be uncomfortable :(
Looks kind of cute on him too :)
Kumo and Nugget
We check Nugget a lot to see if he has any weird patches but so far he's clean. We're supposed to keep them apart but it's so hard since they like being together most of the time. Hopefully this thing clears up soon :)

The Mythbusters with the Green Hornet

green hornets doughnuts
The Green Hornet doughnuts are here! These limited edition bubblegum flavored doughnuts are now available at all Krispy Kreme stores. So if you're a fan of bubblegum/ bubblegum flavored food, better grab some now since these will be available until February 13 only.
Mythbusters Green Hornet Special
Speaking of the the Green Hornet, did you know that Discover channel's Mythbusters will be having a special episode featuring 2 main stunts that were shown in the movie? Pretty exciting, huh? I'm looking forward to seeing if the stunts in the movie are actually possible in real life.
Mythbusters Green Hornet

<p style=
That's Seth Rogen (Mr. Green Hornet!) standing next to a ditch. In the movie, The Green Hornet and his sidekick Kato are buried alive and used their car, the Black Beauty's built in rockets to escape. I'm excited to watch The Mythbusters team along with Seth re-create this scene using real explosives! Watch out for it on the Discovery Channel on Friday, January 28 at 8:00 PM! (And if you are looking for exciting zildjian a series cymbals at musician's friendjust check out the link! :D)

Remember Beth?

I've posted about Beth Olita and her 29 (or more) cats before, but I would like to take this opportunity to remind everyone about her and her amazing act of generosity.
Beth's 29 cats
This is Beth's house.
Beth's 29 cats
In this tiny house Beth and her partner, Micque care for 29 (or more) unwanted cats.
Beth's 29 cats
and despite having very little financial resources, the cats are well fed, clean and LOVED :) Unfortunately, the past months have been rough for Beth financially that she can barely afford to feed her cats. My friend, Grace and I are planning to visit them again this month and would like to ask if anybody would like to donate cat food or cleaning agents such as disinfectant and sponges. Cash donation is also welcome. I will be posting a complete report on cash donations with receipts to assure you that everything will be going to Beth's cats :) For more information on how to donate, you may e-mail me at meowbykate AT gmail . com or leave a note with your e-mail address in the comments section so I can contact you. Thank you!

We want this kitten

My little sister pointed out this cute little baby while we were walking home this afternoon.
IMG_1982
He hides under the foot bridge during the day. Not sure where his mommy was when we took the photo but the street cleaner told us that he sleeps beside the other strays at night.
IMG_1988
Look at that cute face! We want to bring him home but I'm not so sure how it will work out. Our place is very small plus we've already exceeded the allowed number of pets (supposedly just 1 per unit). Our place is very cramped too. Hopefully someone can give him a forever home.

Balancing act

Woke up really early today and almost had a heart attack when I saw Kumo walking on the rail of our balcony! I've never had this problem with Nugget before - for obvious reasons of course :D Should I do something about it? We are 7 floors up so I am really worried that he might slip or something :(
IMG_1955
I know cats are natural acrobats but...
it's really scary seeing him playing here!

Please be careful little white kitty!

So adorable and yummy too! I just hope we had these here in Manila too.

Nugget and Kumo have been getting along really well.

But there are times when I think Nugget's patience is being tested.

The other day I saw Nugget get "attacked" while he was peacefully grooming himself.

Uh-oh! Baby Kumo is scared :D
